Ancestry December 2020 Contest – Official Rules


The Ancestry December 2020 contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by Ancestry Ireland Unlimited Company, 52-55 Sir John Rogerson Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland (the “Sponsor”) and is governed by these official rules (the “Rules”).



The Contest begins on Tuesday 8th December 2020 at 10:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time (“EDT”) and runs until Monday 14th December 2020 at 23:59 EDT (the “Competition Period”).


The Contest is open to Canadian residents (excluding Quebec) who are over the age of majority in their province or territory of residence and who hold a valid current Facebook and/or Instagram account in good standing at the time of entry and, in the case of the winners, throughout prize fulfilment. The Contest is not open to employees, representatives, or agents (and their immediate family or those with whom the employees, representatives, or agents are domiciled, whether related or not) of the Sponsor, its group companies, or its promotional and advertising agencies (collectively the “Contest Parties”). For the purpose of these Rules, immediate family member means spouse, parent, child, sibling, and the “steps” of each.


To enter the Contest on Facebook, during the Contest Period, eligible entrants must entrants must (i) like AncestryCA on Facebook, (ii) like the post related to the Competition (the “Competition Post”),  and (iii) on the Competition Post, tag a friend in the comments. To enter on Instagram, entrants must (i) follow AncestryCA on Instagram, (ii) like the Competition Post and (iii) tag three friends in the comments. 

There is no limit on contest entries per person. Your entry will be rejected if (in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor) the entry is not fully completed and submitted during the Contest Period.  Use of any automated, script, macro, robotic or other program(s) to enter or otherwise participate in this Contest is prohibited and is grounds for disqualification by the Sponsor. No responsibility can be accepted for entries incomplete, delayed or not received.

All entries are subject to verification.  The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor) to participate in this Contest.  Failure to provide such proof in a timely manner may result in disqualification.  The sole determinant of the time for the purposes of a valid entry in this Contest will be the Contest server machine(s).


The prize for the winners of the Contest is one (1) Ancestry DNA kit, the approximate retail value of which is $129.00 CA. There are ten (10) prizes (the “Prizes”) available to be won.

Prizes must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable or convertible to cash.  No substitutions except at Sponsor’s option.  Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute a Prize or a component thereof with a prize of equal or greater value, including, without limitation, but at Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion, a cash award.


All eligible entries received during the Contest Period will be entered into a draw from which the winners will be selected at random by the Sponsor on Monday 14th  December 2020 (the “Winner Selection Date”).  Ten (10) prize winners will be selected in total as follows: 

  • Five (5) prize winners will be selected  by a random draw of  all eligible entries submitted on Facebook and received in accordance with these Rules.
  • Five (5) prize winners will also be selected by random draw from among all eligible entries submitted on Instagram and received in accordance with these Rules. 

The winners will be notified via a private message on Facebook or a DM on Instagram. Winners must (i)) respond to the private message, (ii) provide proof of age and residence and (iii) provide a valid mailing address for the prize to be delivered to. If the winner does not respond to the private message with the required contact details within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of the message, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to select an alternate winner from among the remaining eligible entries  and to re-award the prize with no further obligation or liability to the initial winners.


All entries become the property of the Sponsor. This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws.  The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to all aspects of this Contest are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal, including, without limitation, any decisions regarding the eligibility/disqualification of entries and/or entrants. The SponsorPromoter reserves the right to modify, cancel or withdraw the Contest at any time without notice. 

The Sponsor will not be liable for any failure of any website during the Contest; for any technical malfunction or other problems relating to computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software; for the failure of any entry to be received by the Sponsor for any reason including, but not limited to, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website; or any combination of the above.  Further, the Sponsor will not be liable for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or mobile device related to or resulting from participating or downloading any material in the Contest.

In the event of a dispute regarding who submitted an entry, entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the Facebook or Instagram account used to submit the entry at the time of entry.  “Authorized account holder” is defined as the person who is assigned as the account holder by Facebook or Instagram. An entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the authorized account holder of the account associated with the selected entry.

    I’ve completed my ancestry DNA already and with my matches I found my birth mom. I want to win the kit and give it to her, so I have it on paper that she is my mom.
